How do you get the smell out of leather shoes (mules)?
I have a pair of leather mules Clark that I have worn for a long time. Unfortunately, you stink, and I can not smell out. I have sprayed deoderant foot into the shoe and that does not help. I would love to wear these shoes at work, but I do not want to include all the gross-out! I do not think that I can wash them because they are made of leather. If the couple away from the window? Thank you for your time!

I saw on tv that if you put your shoes in a plastic bag in the freezer overnite it kills the bacteria that makes the smell.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:51 pmI have also heard of fabric sheets in shoes. I would think that only masks the odor. Normally, the cushion (under the foot) in the shoe holds the majority of odor. Replace cushion.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:58 pmJust stick 1/2-1 cup baking soda and let sit for a few days if the smell is really bad. Dump it out and wear as usual. Do that every night to prevent it from happening again.

March 11th, 2010 at 1:16 pmPut one or two pieces of charcoal in each shoe and place in a closed paper bag. Leave shoes in bag for a couple of days. No more smell…
Best way to keep shoes from ever getting the stinky smell in the first place is to store your most-worn shoes overnite with charcoal in them, either in the box they came in or a paper bag.
Bamboo charcoal shoe inserts are available (I bought some in China and I love ‘em!) but everyday charcoal for the grill works as well. Just dont buy the “hickory” or flavored charcoals or you’ll walk around smelling like a Bar-B-Q.
I like the sound of the answer from Swan Granny- I think I will have to do some testing at my workshop with charcoal. It makes sense as charcoal is basically what is in fishtank filters to absorb all sorts of chemicals and odors.

We use a giant ozone machine for odor like cat urine etc on sofas.
